Newbridges Acute Inpatient Unit

A safe, therapeutic environment for males suffering from any form of mental illness who need to be in hospital.

The Team

The team offer a range of therapeutic interventions and endeavour to return people to their usual environment as soon as possible. We work closely with other professionals and agencies to ensure that people receive a full package of care when they are discharged.

The team also help patients to return to normal living and use a social inclusion model to help us to do this. They provide a variety of interventions, treatments and activities both on and off the ward. The team have a dedicated consultant psychiatrist and junior doctors providing medical cover to the ward.

The team is made up of the following staff:
- Charge nurse
- Two deputy charge nurses
- Nine qualified staff nurses
- 13 health care assistants
- 1 support worker
- 1 admin assistant
- 4 ancillary staff

The team can also refer patients to other teams such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy and psychology.

They treat males who are primarily of working age  (18 – 65),  although this is not a rigid age range and they do cater for people older than this who have a previous history of severe and enduring mental health problems. The team offer a non-judgemental service, caring for males of any ethnic background and culture.
