Type 1 Diabetes and Eating Disorders Pilot Project Hull and East Riding
The Type 1 Diabetes and Eating Disorders (T1DE) pilot project brings together diabetes, eating disorders and mental health care under one team.
The Hull and East Riding T1DE service is one of seven in the country to have been awarded funding by NHS England until April 2025. This is a joint project between City Health Care Partnership CIC, Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.
We can help you if you are 18 and over and have Type 1 diabetes and an eating disorder. We will support you to safely manage your diabetes and improve your mental health whilst having treatment for your eating disorder.
To access the service you must have a Hull and East Riding GP.
The T1DE team is made up of specialist clinicians and doctors with experience and knowledge in treating people who have type 1 diabetes, eating disorders and mental health problems. You may see some, or all the team, at different points in your recovery journey depending on your needs.
When you have your first appointment, the clinician will explain about the different roles each team member has and if you agree, they may introduce you to other members of the team who may be able to help with your treatment. The team includes a diabetologist, liaison psychiatrist, diabetes specialist nurse, specialist dietitian, eating disorder practitioners, mental health nurse and an MDT Coordinator.
In addition to being seen on your own, people you live with or are close to may be invited to join sessions to explore how they may help. We will only do this if you tell us you are happy for them to come.
How to access the T1DE service
If you feel you meet the criteria for the T1DE service please speak to your diabetes specialist nurse or eating disorder practitioner and they can refer you to us.
