Mental Health Liaison Service

A 24/7 service specialising in providing mental health care to those attending the Emergency Department or whom are inpatients within Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospitals.

The Team

The A&E Mental Health Liaison Team is a dedicated team who offer a service to patients presenting at Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital posing any risks to themselves, presenting with symptoms of an acute mental illness or emotional distress.  We also offer support and advice to minor injuries units in the area.  We are an ageless service, which means we will offer an assessment to anyone meeting our referral criteria, regardless of their age.

It is our strong belief that managing the risk of self harm and suicide is a collaborative process.  We liaise with other services to arrange the most appropriate support and follow-up for the individual concerned, at all times involving them and where possible their families and carers in the decision-making process.

We offer a full psychosocial assessment, which is voluntary, in order to identify the person's needs, which enables us to ensure the individual receives prompt and effective psychiatric treatment and appropriate aftercare.

How to access the service

Referrals will only be accepted from a clinician from the ward or department the patient is admitted onto via the single point of access contact number 01482 226226.
