We've changed our name and are now Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust

We've changed our name. 

On 1 April 2018 we became Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust to better reflect the organisation’s work in promoting learning to benefit patient care. 

Chief Executive Michele Moran said: “There was a widespread desire within the Trust to refresh our name so it better reflects our teaching activity and close working relationships with the universities of Hull and York. 

“We are particularly keen to highlight our strong bond with the University of Hull’s Faculty of Health Sciences and the quality education it provides to the significant number of its students who later choose to begin or develop their careers with the Trust. 

“The change also illustrates our three core values – Caring, Learning and Growing – and demonstrates the rapidly growing importance of our research and development, particularly its practical application to our services.” 

Work on the name change began last year and moved forward quickly when the Board and Council of Governors agreed the changes. Key partner organisations offered support before healthcare regulator NHS Improvement granted final approval. 

Ms Moran said: “Our change of name supports our determination to ensure teaching, learning, research and quality improvement are at the heart of everything we do. 

“It will also enable us to increase the opportunities for our staff to take part in teaching and research - opportunities which will make us a more attractive to national and international experts and potential staff. 

“National and international experts are likely to take note of the emphasis we place on research and to be more likely to work with us on projects which will have immediate benefits for our patients. 

“Staff will also see that we put a very high value on learning and will be more interested in working here, allowing us to find the employees we need to sustain our services. 

“Changing our name is another positive moment in the life of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and builds on our determination to continue improving our services.” 

Professor Julie Jomeen, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Hull, said: “The renaming of the Trust reflects our shared ambitions and strong connections between Hull York Medical School, the University of Hull and the Trust. 

“Together, we are committed to improving the health of the region, working closely with the Trust so that it can achieve its aspirations as a leading healthcare provider. 

“The University’s life-changing research and the nurses, doctors, midwives and allied health professionals we train are making a real difference to patients. 

“This commitment to the Trust is underpinned by the new simulated training facilities in the Allam Medical Building at the University which ensure that all our graduates are of high calibre and fully-prepared for clinical practice. 

“The expansion of Hull York Medical School to train an additional 90 doctors from 2019 is also helping to build a sustainable workforce for the NHS, particularly to address growing national shortages in psychiatry and general practice and will assist the Trust in providing the highest standards of healthcare for patients.”
