Loneliness is something that affects us all, in one way or another, throughout our lives.

No matter who we are, where we live, or the kind of life we lead, there will always be moments where we feel alone or isolated. For some, unfortunately those moments happen more frequently than others.

The NHS Better Health team’s Every Mind Matters campaign highlights the importance of accepting that loneliness is something that happens to everyone – and that you are not to blame if you feel like you are struggling, now or at any other time.

There is no single cause of loneliness. It is not something that is easy to fix and can be triggered by a whole host of life events or changes in your situation.

Even those surrounded by people a lot of the time, whether it’s a big family, lots of friends, or a busy work life, can feel lonely.

It is also important to note that it’s possible to experience feeling lonely in different ways. You are individually unique, and you do not need to wonder why you feel differently to someone else. What it does mean, however, is that you may benefit from tailored individual support when you feel you need it.

Our Emotional Wellbeing Service would like to remind residents of the East Riding that support is there for you when you are struggling with loneliness.

We are on hand to help you overcome these feelings, and to develop a plan for support that works for you.

While loneliness is a feeling we can all relate to, our team appreciates that speaking to someone about our feelings of loneliness can be overwhelming. But as the saying goes, a problem shared is a problem halved, and the expert team are fully equipped with the advice, support, and resources to help tackle how you feel, together.

If you’re struggling with feelings of loneliness and you’re registered with a GP in the East Riding, consider reaching out to our team today.

It is now easier than ever to speak to someone about your mental health, and you can self-refer to our Emotional Wellbeing Service in a number of ways:
