Trust welcomes new Non-Executive Director
Published: 01 January 0001
We are pleased to welcome our new Clinical Non-Executive Director, Dr Phillip Earnshaw.
Phillip joins the Trust on 25 July 2022, for an initial term of three years.
He is currently Senior Partner at a GP Practice in the Wakefield District, Castleford and Knottingley, and is the Director of a GP Federation in Wakefield and a Primary Care Network Clinical Director, both of which have equipped him with a wealth of clinical experience over the decades.
Phillip is the Vice Chair of Wakefield District Housing, a social housing association that provides safe accommodation for people throughout Wakefield and in parts of the East Riding.
Looking back, Phillip recalls an enjoyable career and one which has come a long way since he set up his first new organisation in the 1990s – a local out of hours General Practice for the whole of the Wakefield District. Later in his career he was a Founding Director of a company which set up and ran 3 NHS GP-led walk-in centres and several Practices.
Phillip spent six years from 2013 to 2019 as the Founding Chair of Wakefield CCG and Vice Chair of Wakefield Council’s Health and Wellbeing Board. He notes that these experiences underpin his values as a clinical professional and that these align well with the Trust’s and its partnerships’ strategies. Throughout his career, he has brought a strong focus towards reducing health inequalities and developing interventions that truly make a difference to the people we serve.
In his spare time, Phillip enjoys being a voluntary Trustee at the Prince of Wales Hospice and he is also a Leader at his Church, where the rewarding activities they organise, including food banks for those in need, provide him with a deep sense of gratitude.
When asked what made him interested in applying for the Non-Executive Director role at our Trust, Phillip said:
“I’ve been working in clinical roles in West Yorkshire for many years now and I feel ready for a different challenge with an opportunity to meet new people.
The variety of different services that the Trust provides is interesting to me, and I truly believe my skills, experience and interest in these areas set me in good stead to provide meaningful advice and oversight to the Trust Board.
My main goals are simply to enjoy this experience and to contribute positively to the development of the Trust, in what is a particularly new environment with the latest partnerships. I am looking forward to playing a role in making a difference to our local communities.”
Caroline Flint, Chair, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“I am delighted to announce Dr Phillip Earnshaw is joining us as Non-Executive Director on the Trust Board. His wealth of experience in clinical care and the development of health and social care services is something we are very much looking forward to having on board. I have no doubt that his experiences and insights will positively impact our Trust moving forwards.”
We hope you join us in wishing Dr Earnshaw a warm welcome and look forward to getting to know him better as he takes his post.
