Trust Celebrates Staff Awards 2019

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust hosts its Staff Awards annually, welcoming teams and individuals to celebrate the amazing work that they carry out throughout the trust.

This years’ awards took place in Willerby on 17 October at the Mercure Hotel. Nominated staff and their guests attended in excitement to see who had won each of the 14 Awards.

The Team of the Year – Mental Health Services was awarded to the Goole Adult Community Mental Health Team for their teamwork to deliver holistic care with patients at the centre of everything that they do in their roles.

Granville Court  Chefs Annette McGrath and Dan Tonks scooped up the Team of the Year – Children’s and Learning Disability Services award. Annette and Dan’s passion, creativity and innovation are inspirational which was recognised by the CQC during the home’s last inspection.

The Team of the Year – Community and Primary Care award went to YourHealth – Prevention and Lifestyle Service. Over the last year they have helped over 2800 people in their Social Prescribing Service, rolled out a new health service for fishermen, helped 800 people in North Yorkshire collectively loose over 1000 stone in weight, and much more.

Swale Ward, of the Humber Centre were presented with the award of Team of the Year - Secure Services for their creation and set up of a strategy which focuses on more effective Multi-disciplinary Team working, staff wellbeing and staff training and development. This has enabled the staff to develop a culture of positivity and caring, not just for the patients but for each other.

Team of the Year – Corporate Services was snapped up by not one, but two Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s teams.

First up was the Business Intelligence Department. This team have developed some key reporting systems to support both clinical and corporate services. These include the Friends and Family Test and waiting list dashboards and the implementation of statistical process control charts which provides a greater understanding of performance and improves the way we use resources and understand services that need additional support.

Next to win this award was the Trust’s Legal and Information Governance Team. This team works tirelessly and quietly behind the scenes actively supporting staff to ensure information governance requirements are not only met but exceeded for the Trust. They are the first port of call for all information governance matters for existing and new services and in relation to any new products.

Gail Hanson of Granville Court was presented with the Outstanding Care Award. Gail has supported staff at Granville Court through some challenging but exciting times, always going that extra mile to enable staff to gain confidence in new systems or ways of working. The Trust’s vision of Caring, Learning and Growing is wrapped in Gail’s personality and she is a marvellous ambassador for both the home and the Trust.

Up Next was the Innovation award. This prestigious award was presented to Dr Soraya Mayet. As well as being Trust local Principal Investigator for a number of national research studies, sitting on various national research steering committees and an active member of the Trust Research and Development Group, Soraya also successfully competed for research funds from our local commissioner and was granted further funds from the Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Science Network to develop an innovative and ambitious local project utilising telemedicine.

The Chairman’s Award, presented by Trust Chair, Sharon Mays was awarded to Joanne Bone. Joanne is the patient experience champion for the inpatient service as well as an Always Event mentor and champions development, learning and sharing new skills within the Learning Disability Service.

The Trust’s Patient and Carer Experience Award was another that was snapped by two fantastic contributors. The first to accept his award was Tom Nicklin. Tom is a very active Patient and Carer Experience Champion who has told his Patient Story at our Trust Board. Tom did a fabulous piece of research on Gaming and Mental Health and gave an excellent presentation at a Staff Champion of Patient Experience forum.

Next to accept his Patient and Carer Experience award was Gavin Hamilton, who has used his past professional knowledge, lived experience, time and talents, to make a big contribution to Patient and Carer experience. He takes part in: interview panels; PACE Forums, working groups and workshops; represents Veterans as their 'Champion'; and presentations alongside Patient and Carer Experience Manager Mandy Dawley.

The next award was the Proud Award which was scooped up by Anne Gorman. Anne has given great commitment to the Programme of Organisational Development, she shows her belief in it in her conversations, contributed significantly to the content and development of the staff charter and leadership framework.

The Trust’s Volunteer Award went to Leonard Evington who is a Patient Experience Champion for Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. He began volunteering whilst in Townend Court and, with support, he set up a Meet and Greet service where he would make drinks for visitors, people using the out-patient service and their carers – always with a big smile on this face.

Health Stars Sparkle Award was awarded to none other than the Trust’s Speech and Language Therapisty Team, who have worked closely with Health Stars to proactively fundraise for service enhancements. Allanah and Gemma ran the Hull 10K and Gill Emerson has coordinated community involvement from the local Lions Associations to help raise funds for specialist equipment.

The Second to last award of the evening was for the Apprentice of the Year. Yvonne Hepworth has shown hard work, dedication and commitment whilst undertaking a level 3 NVQ qualification, was presented with this prestigious award.

The Final Award of the evening was the Chief Executive’s Rising Star Award. Trust CEO Michele Moran presented this award to Sam Jackson, who is a passionate, inspiring nurse who gives so much to patients and staff. Sam qualified as a nurse in 2017 and is now a senior nurse in the Trust’s Frailty and Unplanned Care team.

Mrs. Moran then took to the stage one last time for the evening to congratulate all of those who had been nominated, as well as those who won awards. She then brought the ceremony to a close and thanked the staff and their gusts for attending, and making it another special event.
