Published: 10 November 2023
Our Trust hosted our annual Staff Celebration Event this year at Lazaat Hotel, Willerby. The event took place on 10 November 2023 and welcomed teams from across the Trust to celebrate the fantastic work they do.
The Celebration Event is the setting for the winners of the Staff Awards to be announced and presented with their awards. Nominations open earlier in the year to staff within the Trust to put forward their peers and colleagues for one of the 14 award categories.
David ‘Burnsy’ Burns (formerly BBC Radio Humberside) hosted the glittering, black-tie event for nearly 300 attendees, including staff and sponsors. The hugely successful evening was enjoyed by all and a great example of how the Trust celebrates the hard work and initiative shown by all its employees.
The Staff Awards nominations are judged by a panel including members of staff and all must fulfil the criteria of upholding the Trust’s values, show a commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, as well as showing a contribution to the delivery of outstanding care.
The first award presented was the Being Humber Award which was won by jointly by Joanne Howard and Rachel Johnson as part of the domestic team who ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and homeliness in Maister Lodge.
Next up was the Humbelievable (Clinical) award which celebrates a team that go above and beyond to deliver Trust values, which went to ERP Addictions Service for their remarkable work supporting patients to access their service.
The next Humbelievable (Non-Clinical) award was given to Daniel Tonks who delivers an excellent level of care through his work as a care worker at Granville Court, Hornsea.
The Innovation (Clinical) award for a team who created real innovation change was awarded to the Scarborough and Ryedale Intermediate Care Team for their work developing and intermediate care bed-based service.
This was followed by the Innovation (Non-Clinical) award which recognised the Humber Centre Catering Team for all their work in creating special occasion meals and delivering them to patients.
The Patient and Carer Experience award highlights examples of successful co-production and was awarded to KUF Training Project within CENS for co-producing the learning programme.
Then it was on to Volunteer of the Year which celebrates an individual volunteer who has gone the extra mile and this was awarded to Shaun Atkinson for his always kind, respectful and considerate working attitude when working at the Bakersville Allotment.
The Wellbeing award looks at how teams are placing focus on their staff’s wellbeing and this went to Helen Courtney, Modern Matron for her work with the staff at Humber Centre including Walking Wednesdays and psychological support.
The Outstanding Care award highlights exemplary care and best practice, it was awarded to the Health and Wellbeing Advisor Connector Service for their work benefitting people during a time of economic uncertainty and through the cost-of-living crisis.
The Patient Safety award is hugely important and as such there were two winners of this award – Kathy Hobman, AMHP (Miranda House) and the Derwent Ward at Humber Centre. Kathy was recognised for her tireless work supporting one of her patients. And Derwent Ward were recognised for their work supporting one of their patients.
The final award which is specifically chosen by Michele Moran and Caroline Flint to recognise exceptional work was awarded to the Estates Team for their outstanding work across all areas of the Trust.
When speaking at the event Michele Moran, Chief Executive, said, “What a fantastic evening this has been. I am immensely proud of every one of the teams and individuals nominated tonight, and of course a huge congratulations to our winners.”
