Recreating a moment 15 years on
Published: 01 January 0001
Fifteen years ago a piece of land on Swinemoor Lane in Beverley was sold to Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. Today there stands East Riding Community Hospital which serves the local community with a diverse range of services including urgent care, midwifery and x-rays!
On 20th January 2009, Karen Knapton and Eric Bielby were photographed in front of the land to recognise the sale. Eric marked the occasion by drawing on a tradition from the Middle Ages when a seller would present a piece of turf or wood to the purchaser upon the sale of the land. However, in 2009, rather than turf Eric chose to present Karen with symbolic coins to acknowledge the sale.
Karen Knapton was at that time Chair of the NHS East Riding of Yorkshire and Councillor Eric Bielby was the Former Chairman of Beverley Consolidated Charity Board of Trustees (now Beverley Housing Charity).
To mark the 15 years, we have recreated the photo taken all those years ago to celebrate the positive impact East Riding Community Hospital has had on the local area.
The Trust’s Director of Finance, Pete Beckwith met with Andy Barber, Chief Executive at Beverley Housing Charity, to recreate the original photo. Pete said, ““For the last fifteen years the East Riding Community Hospital has provided our local community with a variety of services and care. As a local resident myself I have seen first-hand the benefits presented by the hospital to our community. I am delighted to attend the hospital on behalf of the Trust to celebrate the services delivered for the last fifteen years.”
The land was previously owned by Beverley Housing Charity (formerly Beverley Consolidated Charity) and the sale of this land enabled the charity to invest in creating more homes in the centre of Beverley, which have gone on to improve health and wellbeing for local people. Andy Barber from the charity said, “What a difference the community hospital has made to all residents of Beverley and the surrounding area over the last fifteen years. As an effective extension of primary care and medical support, local people have gained access to rehabilitation, palliative care, intermediate care and surgical care, as well as emergency and maternity facilities.”
We look forward to celebrating 15 years since the official opening of the East Riding Community Hospital next year!
