Our collaboration with Wyke Sixth Form College to help students develop experience in the healthcare sector

We are partnering with Wyke Sixth Form College to provide the new T Level in Health, which will allow students to access work experience in healthcare settings as part of their further education course.

Wyke Sixth Form College is one of the first education providers in the region to introduce the new T Level courses to students as of September 2021.

T Levels are ‘a new qualification after GCSE that will take your future to the next level’ and are the UK Government’s response to ensuring that young people are getting the right kind of experience for their future careers.

The courses will be made up of 80% classroom- and 20% work-based experience. This means that young people will be more equipped with the skills and knowledge they require when leaving College.

Pete Cook, Learning and Development Manager, said:

“We’re looking forward to inviting the next generation of healthcare workers to our Trust. T-Levels give us the opportunity to provide valuable insight into what it takes to form a career in healthcare. Students learn from real life experiences, gaining the knowledge, practical skills and attitude they need to succeed.”

The T Level in Healthcare will involve 15 students joining our Trust for 1 day per week, where they will be mentored by professional healthcare workers in a number of different departments. Students will not only develop their skills, but they will also acquire a true to life insight into the demands of the sector they aspire to work in.

This is a great opportunity also for healthcare staff to pass on their skills and knowledge to the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Vicky Riseham, Careers Lead at Wyke Sixth Form College, said:

“At Wyke Sixth Form College we are excited and privileged to be partnered with Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, our students will have a great opportunity to gain an insight into the many different healthcare careers from some of the most experienced and professional people in the industry. “

We look forward to welcoming the students in September.
