The latest NHS Staff Survey results, published today, rank Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust as the best-performing organisation in Humber and North Yorkshire, making it the top choice for staff in the region.

The themes and words that make up the People Promise have come from staff in the NHS. People in different healthcare roles and organisations shared what matters most to them, and what would make the greatest difference in improving their experience in the workplace. The Staff Survey is used to measure each Trust on their performance against these criteria.

The results measure progress on seven NHS People Promises plus the themes of staff engagement and morale, to track national progress against the ambition to make the NHS the best workplace it can be. Last year, our Trust published our best ever results, something that we are pleased to build on again this year, as well as against the benchmark group and national average.

Our Trust scored the highest for six out of nine of the key measures of success across the wider Integrated Care System, which includes all Trusts across Humber and North Yorkshire, North-East and North Cumbria, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

These results are also benchmarked against other Mental Health & Learning Disability and Mental Health, Learning Disability and Community Trusts, providing focus for both areas for improvement and celebration.

Michele Moran, Chief Executive, said, “Being recognised as the top choice for NHS staff in our region is a truly remarkable achievement. What makes this even more meaningful is that it’s our own staff who have shared their feedback through this survey. While we are thrilled with this result, it will not deter us from pushing further to provide even better support and experience for our staff. Our commitment to continuous improvement remains and the positive impact our staff have on quality and patient safety is paramount to everything we do. When our teams feel supported, they are empowered to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients.”

This year just over 56% of staff completed the survey, which represents an increase on last year’s record completion rates and puts us above the national average.

The latest report also includes five years of results which demonstrate the positive work that has been done to ensure continuous improvements to staff and patient experiences.

One of the key highlights is the rise in staff satisfaction. The number of staff who would recommend our organisation as a place to work has increased significantly, from 49% in 2019 to 69% in 2024, well above both our benchmark group and the national average. This is a key indicator of staff engagement and satisfaction, reflecting our ongoing efforts to create a positive work environment.

Karen Phillips, Associate Director of People & OD, said, “This result, showcasing such a significant increase in staff satisfaction, is incredibly encouraging. At our Trust, we place a strong focus on the happiness and wellbeing of our staff and seeing that our efforts are engaging and supporting them is truly rewarding. I am immensely proud of the work we do to ensure our staff feel valued and supported, and we remain committed to exploring new ways to provide the best possible experience for every member of our team.”

Additionally, staff reporting that we act on concerns raised by patients and service users has risen from 66.34% in 2019 to 79% in 2024, again significantly outperforming both our benchmark group and the national average. This demonstrates our commitment to listening to and acting on feedback, further enhancing the quality of care we provide.

We would like to thank all our staff who completed the survey and ranked us as the best Trust to work for in our region.
