New roles for people with lived mental health experience
Published: 04 March 2020
We are recruiting for fifteen new Peer Support Worker roles within our community and in-patient teams across Hull and East Riding.
A Peer Support Worker is someone who has lived experience, and who uses that lived experience to help and support other people who are experiencing distress.
The role will be filled by those who are looking to start their career in mental health and wish to give back to the community after benefitting from mental health services in the past. The position nicely combines this with the need to help these individuals get back into employment after suffering with their mental health and also to develop their career pathways.
This is an entry position, with a great deal of opportunities to evolve this role and develop your skills over time. It also provides training to people who would like to become Peer Support Workers, or who would like to develop these skills to assist them in their chosen area of work.
The development of the role was a co-productive process that involved both corporate teams and a service user group called ‘the journeys’. This group used their lived experience and knowledge to advise the Trust on what really matters to our patients in their time of need, and how this can be accommodated through recruitment.

Applications for both full-time and part-time roles are open until Sunday 8th March.
