Mental Health Division - BeDigital Week 2024
Published: 11 December 2024
As part of BeDigital Week 2024, our Mental Health division is showcasing a significant digital milestone: the integration of NHS 111’s Mental Health provision into our local services. This innovation is transforming how we support individuals in crisis, ensuring accessibility, immediacy, and tailored care for everyone in Hull and East Yorkshire.
The NHS 111 service now includes a dedicated mental health option that connects individuals to local crisis services with just one call. This feature is available 24/7, offering rapid access to our trained mental health professionals who can provide advice, support, and referrals.
When patients call NHS 111 and select the mental health option:
· A trained professional answers: They’ll listen to your concerns and assess your needs.
· Access to patient records: With permission, they can view electronic records to better understand your history, saving you from repeating your story.
· Tailored support: Whether through advice, referrals, or crisis intervention, the service ensures the right care is provided swiftly.
For those unable to make the call, loved ones, friends, or even GPs can call on their behalf. Additionally, an online version of NHS 111 is accessible at 111.nhs.uk, and services like SignVideo cater to individuals who are deaf or have hearing loss.
This service supports people of all ages, including children, young people, and those with neurodevelopmental needs. Some situations that may prompt a call include:
· Changes in mood or behavior
· Excessive worry or anxiety
· Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
· Hearing voices or seeing things others don’t
· Feeling unable to cope or overwhelmed
· Local Crisis Support
For residents of Hull and East Yorkshire, our Mental Health Advice and Support Line (0800 138 0990) continues to operate alongside NHS 111 for those who are familiar with the service.
By adopting digital-first approaches like the NHS 111 Mental Health option, our Adult Mental Health Division is leading the way in creating a more connected, responsive, and inclusive healthcare system. As we work through BeDigital Week, this innovation exemplifies our commitment to improving mental health care for all.
