Meet our Miranda House Green Team
Published: 01 January 0001
Over the past few months, our team at Miranda House have been working on a new sustainability initiative, to help reduce waste and forge an eco-friendly future at mental health units.
Did you know that only 70% of paper used in the UK is recycled? Or that it takes 75% less energy to make a plastic bottle using recycled materials, compared with using original materials?
These are just two small insights into why encouraging sustainability at our Trust is a priority. The Miranda House Green Team is a fantastic example of how all teams can work to make small changes that can have a big impact.
Nationally, the NHS is on a mission to go Green, and they believe that very single decision to act more sustainably matters. Many organisations within the NHS, including our own, has already dedicated sustainability professionals and teams.
You can read all about the Greener NHS National Programme, here.
The Miranda House Green Team has made great progress since initiating this local project, and so far has achieved the following:

- Improving recycling
- Replacing service cars with hybrid cars
- Exploring incentives such as cycle to work scheme
- Increasing number of plants in the building
- Introducing lamps in offices to alleviate need for main lights
- Digital solutions to reduce paper use
- Compostable medicine cups and reusable water cups for medication administration
- Promoting awareness of sustainability and tips for staff to use at home
- Recruit staff to the Green Team to ensure longevity
As the team moves forward with their important mission, they have a whole agenda of goals and helpful resources to keep the momentum going long term.
