Local Football Club raises money for NHS staff at Whitby Hospital

A cheque for £1,000 has been donated to Whitby Hospital staff this week by Whitby Football Club.

The gesture is said to be a big thank you for their hard work and support in the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The money was raised as part of the 'Whitby Town in the Community' project, which has supported various causes in the local area, for over a year.

Michele Moran, Chief Executive at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“We would like to sincerely thank the football club for their efforts in fundraising for hospital staff, we know that this will make a difference and help them feel appreciated for all that they do. We are immensely proud of the hard work and resilience shown by all of our staff during this time, and this is a wonderful acknowledgement of their ongoing dedication to the communities we serve.”

Whitby Hospital was deemed to be one of the worthy recipients for project by the Whitby Town Vice President, Eddie McNamee. But, it is only with the aid and generosity of the Blues' supporters that this would be possible.

Thank you to all who have taken part in the local club competitions – it is thanks to you that this brilliant amount of money has been raised and donated to local NHS staff, who have worked tirelessly in recent times.

McNamee said: "As a football club, we wanted to give a boost to all of the staff who have worked through this pandemic. There are a lot of individuals who have worked so hard, from the Nurses, to the Drivers and Porters - everyone.

He added: “When Graeme Hinchliffe and I took over, along with the new Board in 2018, a goal of ours was to carry out different community projects and get the town involved with the club. This is one example of how we intend to achieve that.”

The football club has raised money for a variety of causes in addition to the local hospital, and they regularly put out appeals to help donate items to the Whitby Food Bank.

The club’s next aim is to help raise funds for all seven of the Whitby Primary Schools. This collaborative approach is hoped to foster a link between the club and the schools, which may encourage young people in the area to attend games and help to form the future of the club.
