Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment Service Re Launched To Support People The East Riding

Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment Service (WRES) has been recommissioned to support economically inactive East Riding residents who face barriers to accessing skills, opportunities, and meaningful paid or voluntary employment.

The project is delivered by our Trust, on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council and is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (People & Skills).

The community-based team of Employment Advisors, Employment Skills Practitioners and lived-experience Peers are on hand to provide support, tailored to individual need, for people in East Riding wishing to:

·       Make positive lifestyle and behavioural changes to improve wellbeing and increase chances of gaining and sustaining paid / voluntary employment.

·       Gain valuable life skills through supported self-awareness, reflection, resilience building and goal setting.

·       Improve employment-based skills such as writing a CV, job searching and applications, preparation for interview and learning from feedback.

·       Improve confidence and reduce anxieties around paid / voluntary employment / education – including support with possible implication to benefits.

·       Build peer relationships with like-minded people within a supported, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

·       Prepare for paid / voluntary employment by gaining functional skills (including support to access adult learning provision where required)

·       Become more physically, mentally, and economically active.

The WRES team work in close partnership with other Humber Prevention Recovery and Wellbeing Services, providing wrap around, hybrid support to those who need it most including those most isolated and at risk of social exclusion. Having an Employment Skills Practitioner onboard allows service users to benefit from a variety of educational / wellbeing tools, community sessions and online courses available within Humber Recovery and Wellbeing College.

The Wellbeing Recovery Employment Service has supported over 150 individuals to make real, sustainable difference to their lives and have recently welcomed two former participants to the team in roles as paid Peer Supporters.

Matty, a former WRES service user said, “Before WRES I really lacked the belief I would be able to secure a job. I felt like it was never going to happen for me but the skills I gained mean I have stopped being so hard on myself when I don’t succeed and have given me the belief that I would find a job if I kept working at it. The resilience, motivation and confidence I built through my time with WRES really helped me overcome my fears. Without the support of the WRES team I would probably still be unemployed, still on Universal Credit and being moved from service to service for support. Instead, I am really enjoying my time at work and have ambitions to develop myself and work in media at some point in the future!”

Fernanda Marbrow, Support Manager from our Trust, said, “Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment Service offers individualised, wrap around support to those who need it most. Whatever your barriers to meaningful economic activity, our team are here to support you- from taking those first steps to increase skills, confidence and identify a way forward, accessing meaningful activity such as work experience / voluntary opportunities, preparing for a work trial or an interview, to starting a new job or course – we’ll be with you every step of the way.”

Support is available to those aged 16+ who reside within the East Riding of Yorkshire Council area, have the right to live and work in the UK and are economically inactive (those not in any paid work and not actively seeking work) at point of referral.
