Hello Humber-Meet our IPS Team

Published: 01 January 0001

The Trust’s Individual Placement and Support (IPS) team is probably better known as Positive Assets.

Positive Assets have supported Trust patients for over 15 years, but since becoming an IPS service they have been integrated into all of our Community Mental Health Teams.

Prior to April 2021 Positive Assets staff were only embedded within the Hull CMHTs, but with additional funding from NHS England they were able to expand to cover the East Riding teams.

Rachel, IPS Team Lead

“I have worked for the Trust for a number of years, having started out as an Employment Specialist.

I am extremely excited and proud to be developing the Trusts IPS service and helping our CMHT clients to find meaningful employment as part of their recovery.

It is estimated that 86-90% of people with mental health conditions, who are not in employment, want to work.

I enjoy continuing to help people achieve their aspirations.”

Les, IPS Team Lead

“I’ve been with Positive Assets since 2018, working across all of the Trust’s Community Mental Health Teams.

Previously, I worked for Jobcentre Plus, an experience that taught me how not to deal with clients, that behavioural change does not come from telling people what to do. That encourages only resistance.

The IPS model that Positive Assets works to appeals because it values client preferences and puts them in control of making positive changes in their lives and moving into paid work, which supports recovery through increased purpose, socialisation and greater financial independence.”

Jackie, IPS Employment Specialist

“This last 18 months has been a whirlwind with the Covid situation, learning a new role and integrating with the teams in Hull.

I would like to thank everyone for being so welcoming and for your support throughout this time.

Since commencing the role of IPS Employment Specialist I have worked within both West and East Hull CMHT’s, I have met some amazing clients who are turning their lives around through employment or training. I would also say ‘thank you’ to the staff within these teams, who are amazing.

I love my role and get a great deal of satisfaction from being able to help people change their lives for the better, which sometimes isn’t always about work, it could just be that they move nearer to their future goals.”

Sarah, IPS Employment Specialist

“I’m based within the Bridlington, Driffield and Holderness CMHTs, supporting clients back into employment.

I’m really enjoying being part of both teams, working together supporting clients on their journey to recovery.

I’m passionate about this role and believe that being employed has a significant positive impact on people’s lives. Being part of the community gives people satisfaction and a purpose in life.

My support is tailored to the clients’ needs and preferences, to enable suitable and sustainable employment to be found, supporting clients every step of the way!”

Emma, IPS Employment Specialist

“After starting my position with the Trust in March 2020, I have had the privilege of working with a great team and with some great clients, helping them to gain sustainable employment in Hull and the East Riding.

I have supported both PSYPHER and The Grange service users and have learned so much from both teams.

Every day presents you with a new challenge and the opportunity to help others. Assisting people who have experienced a variety of mental health conditions is a rewarding and interesting element to the role and one I am grateful to be undertaking.”

Diana, IPS Employment Specialist

“I joined the Trust in April 2021 having previously worked for Mind mental health charity in a similar role. I have 7 years of experience in Hull and the East Riding, in the field of mental health employment specialisms and community services.

Prior to that, I worked as a Social Worker for East Riding Council in the Children’s Safeguarding Team. I’ve always really enjoyed working in the community.

I work with the Goole and Beverley CMHT’s providing IPS employment support. I am passionate about assisting people with poor mental health who want to work, providing individual, tailored support to guide people into a job which suits their skills and interests whilst aiding their recovery.”
