Health and Wellbeing Advisors to Celebrate Social Prescribers week

The East Riding YOURHealth Health and Wellbeing and Connector Service, delivered by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, are inviting local people to join in celebrating national Social Prescriber Day throughout the week 17 – 21 March 2025.

Social prescribers support in non-medical ways to help people with their health and wellbeing. This could be in situations causing stress such as cost of living, improving mental health, debt and housing to improving wellbeing including connecting people with community groups or finding places to make new friends. The service covers the whole of the East Riding to provide personal support and motivation with changing behaviours and help reduce the risk of long-term health conditions.

The service is showcasing the amazing voluntary, community and social enterprise services available in the East Riding during the week at several community venues.

The range of events by local area is as follows:

Goole

·      Monday 17th March 10:30am £2, Trinity Methodist Church Clifton Gardens, Goole, East Yorkshire. DN14 6AS: Join Kerry for a popular gentle exercise class, meet new friends and experience the benefits of exercise.

·      Wednesday 19th March 1pm – 2:30pm: Join Alistair & Sam for Zentangle (£6 per class) at the newly refurbished Huddle, 1 Estcourt Street, Goole, DN14 5AS.

Haltemprice

·      Monday 17th March 10am King George V playing fields, Cottingham. Join Calley for the very popular wellbeing walks led by volunteer Pat. Pat has been leading wellbeing walks for 15 years and they are always popular for meetings new friends, being out in the fresh air and meeting new friends.

·      Monday 17th March 13:30 King George playing fields, Cottingham. Join Alistair for a longer 2-hour wellbeing walk for those who would like to enjoy a longer walk.

·      Tuesday 18th March 4:45pm. Arlington Hall, St. Mary's Church, Hallgate, Cottingham. Join Vicky for the brand new “Move it or Lose it”, a gentle exercise class designed to improve health, posture and wellbeing. The classes are new to the area and proving to be very popular. First class is free, then £6 for subsequent classes

·      Wednesday 19th March 10am. The Wesley Centre Market Place, YO43 3AJ. Join Rob for the wildly popular wellbeing walk in Market Weighton to improve health/wellbeing and make new friends.

Bridlington

·     Wednesday 19th March 10:30am – 12:00pm. Bridlington Town Hall, Quay Road Bridlington East Yorkshire YO16 4HY. “Meet the Provider” event where Rose will be attending with other services that can help finding work, supporting wellbeing and non – medical services that can help with reducing stress and improving wellbeing

·     Thursday 20th March 10:30 – 12:00pm. Morrisons community café, Bessingby Rd, Bridlington YO16 4SH. Alicia & Aaron will be supporting carers with Barchester Care Homes. If you care for someone and are looking for support this is a great opportunity to spend time with people in similar situations, meet new friends and find out what kind of support is out there for you.

Leven

·      Friday 21st March 10am – 11am. New Inn Pub 44 South Street, Leven, HU17 5NZ. Join Alicia for the popular health walks designed to be accessible to enjoy. Meet new friends, enjoy the fresh air and feel good for the day.

Beverley

·     Wednesday 19th March 10am – 12pm. Treasure House, Champney Rd, Beverley HU17 8HE. Meet John who will be supporting the local community with accessing non-medical services to improve health and wellbeing.

Driffield

·     Wednesday 19th March 9am – 12pm. Alfred Bean Hospital, Bridlington Rd, Driffield YO25 5JR. Join Kay who will be holding a social prescriber’s drop-in clinic to discuss how to support non – medical needs.

Pocklington

·     Thursday 20th March 10am – 12pm. Pocklington Arts Centre, 22-24 Market Pl, Pocklington, York YO42 2AR. Elisha and Jen will be supporting the local community in finding social activities to enjoy, improve mental health and support people with services best placed to help manage challenging situations.

Sarah Davey, YOURhealth Social Prescriber Team Leader said, “A major aspect of the Health and Wellbeing Advisor and Connector service is to ensure that services such as ERYC libraries, church groups and foodbanks and promoted and accessed more by the general public. Helping reduce the day to day social, economic and emotional health issues we can all face day to day. The week will be a great opportunity to highlight such groups and services and give people the opportunity to experience the benefits of social prescribing”.
