East Riding residents over 40 encouraged to sign up for free NHS Health Check
Published: 02 August 2022
Our Health Trainers service is currently offering free NHS Health Checks to 40-74 year olds in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
This programme is delivered in partnership with the Yorkshire Coast and Wolds Primary Care Network, which is made up of GP practices.
The NHS Health Check is a free check-up that covers your cholesterol, Body Mass Index and blood pressure. As part of the appointment, you will be given a bespoke lifestyle improvement plan, and information for any onward referrals required.
The team will also be on hand to signpost you to any community services they may feel you would find useful in helping you maintain a healthy mental and physical wellbeing.
Appointments will be delivered in a variety of community venues, including:
- Alfred Bean Hospital Driffield
- Hornsea Cottage Hospital
- Brandesburton Parish Hall
- Beeford Village Hall
- Leven Recreational Hall
- East Riding Community Hospital Beverley
Some of these venues offering evening and weekend slots to support those who need to attend outside of their working hours.
Ryan Nicholls, Health Trainers Team Leader at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“The NHS Health Checks are a great opportunity for members of the public to gain a snapshot of their current health for free. It also gives people a chance to engage in discussions with dedicated health professionals, who put community wellbeing first.
The team are also on hand to support you with positive lifestyle changes, such as stopping smoking, losing weight or moving more. Whatever your goal, our Health Trainers have the knowledge and experience to guide you on your journey to better health.”
Cllr. Mark Blakeston, Mayor of Driffield, said:
“Developing services to improve the health of the local population is key to the ‘Healthy Driffield’ project which I chair - so it’s fantastic to see this initiative being delivered in the local community. I’m especially pleased therefore that these free health checks are being offered at the Alfred Bean Hospital which makes the service really accessible to the residents of Driffield and surrounding villages.”
All 40-74 year olds in the East Riding are eligible for the check-up, except people with existing health conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, or who have already received an NHS Health Check in the last five years.
To check your eligibility and book a FREE NHS Health Check, call our Health Trainers on 0800 9177752. Many eligible patients in the Yorkshire Coast and Wolds PCN area will also receive an invitation to attend via SMS text message from their GP practice.
