Christmas festivities at the Trust

On Thursday 14 December the Trust held its annual Christmas Carol Concert at the Lecture Theatre, Trust HQ in Willerby. Staff and patients attended the event both in person and virtually to join in with singing carols and celebrating the season with colleagues.

Eve Rose, Trust Chaplain, began proceedings with a welcome to all that attended followed by readings and addresses from Lynn Parkinson, Michele Moran and Caroline Flint in amongst the singing of Christmas classics and carols.

As part of the event the winners of the recent Christmas competitions were chosen by Michele Moran, Chief Executive, and Caroline Flint, Trust Chair. There were two Christmas card competition winners, and these winners were competing for their design to be used on the Trust Christmas cards this year. For the card to be sent to all Trust staff the winner was Isla from Withernsea Primary School and for the card design going out externally the winner was a pupil from The Venn Boulevard Centre.

There was also a competition for the best decorated Christmas tree. The winner was Mill View Court for their inventively crafted tree. The three runners up entries in this competition came from Westlands for their unmistakably ‘Grinch’ themed tree, Pocklington Community Service Team for their cleverly drawn tree and the very striking breastfeeding themed tree from the Perinatal Mental Health Team.

And it wasn’t just decorated trees that were being judged, there was also a category of the best workplace decorations, and the winner was East Riding NHS Talking Therapies at St Andrews Therapy Centre.

At the concert we sampled some cake competition entries and on the day the winner was Liz Dyke with her delicious ginger bundt cake. But the overall winners of the Great Humber Bake Off were the East Riding Partnership (West Hub) for their fantastic chocolate cake, featuring a mound of chocolates in the middle.

Finally, the winner of the poem competition, who also got to read her own beautiful Christmas poem out at the Carol Concert, was Lizzie McKirdy from the Occupational Health Department.

Competitions like these engage and excite those within the Trust’s services, and also the wider community. The response was fantastic, and the entries were all excellent.
