Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s Chief Executive, Michele Moran, is set to walk the length of a half marathon (13.5 mile) between each of the Trust’s mental health inpatient units, to raise money for Trust Charity, Health Stars.

Health Stars is the Trust’s charitable arm which supports services with creating additional opportunities to deliver optimum patient care. The charity has recently been relaunched and brought in-house to provide added focus and cohesive working for the benefit of staff, patients and service users.

Every year Michele takes on a ‘CEO Challenge’ which stretches her physically or mentally, and often both. In previous years, Michele has raised thousands of pounds for the Trust through sponsorship and has completed challenges, including an 8-hour danceathon in 2023. Other challenges have included a 100k cycle and a car washing fundraiser.

On Thursday 25 July 2024, Michele will begin her journey at Maister Lodge, an older people’s mental health unit in Hull. She will then walk to a further 8 inpatient units, culminating at the Humber Centre for Forensic Psychiatry in Willerby.

The Trust’s inpatient units are spaced around the geographical area surrounding the Trust and account for a total of 13.5 miles, representing a considerable challenge for Michele to complete. These inpatient units offer a diverse range of services to patients who require support, including the children and adolescent unit, Inspire on Walker Street.

Once the challenge is complete, Michele will attend the Trust’s Summer Showcase, where a variety of NHS services will be exhibiting the innovative work taking place across the Trust, to both staff and members of the public.

The CEO Challenge is being sponsored by a number of local businesses, with the main sponsor being Sewell Group. Sewell Group are based in Hull and have regularly supported the Trust through estates development work and through sponsorship of a variety of their events. Branded t-shirts at the event are being kindly donated by Scribes. Special thanks also go to: Humber Projects, Andy Hill, JayJay Media and Voace builders for their generous support and involvement.

Ahead of the challenge, Michele Moran said, “This is going to be one of my toughest challenges yet, but one I am very much looking forward to. Being able to visit each of our fantastic inpatient units and the dedicated teams throughout the day will keep me going. I am also delighted to be supporting our in-house Trust Charity, Health Stars, in the excellent work they do. Hopefully the weather will be kind, but I am certainly prepared for anything!”.
