Celebrating our winners at the Health and Care Awards 2021

Published: 01 January 0001

We’re thrilled to announce that we won two Health and Care Awards yesterday evening.

One of which was the Health Improvement Award, which our YOURhealth team won for their Smoking in Pregnancy project.

“We’re honoured and delighted to have won the Hull Live Health improvement award, it’s been a long journey to see a difference in smoking in pregnancy in Goole, but our Goole smoking in Pregnancy Champion, Kerry Birds’ hard work and determination has paid off.

We have seen engagement with the Midwives and women improve significantly over recent months and know this will only further improve health outcomes for both mother and baby. We will continue to spread the Smokefree Generation messages to work towards a smokefree East Riding, both protecting and prolonging the lives of the next generation.” - YOURhealth Team

The second award was for Volunteer of the Year, which was won by one of our newest volunteers, Soraya Hutchinson.

“I am very proud to see one of our newest volunteers; Soraya Hutchinson, not only be recognised for the outstanding time and effort she gives to our Trust, but to go on to win the Volunteer of the Year category. Soraya’s greatest work so far has seen her being a lead volunteer at our Covid vaccine site. She has been there every day that it has been in operation, running around, supporting volunteers, supporting logistics and everything in between.” - Sharon Nobbs, Volunteer Coordinator

Soraya was speechless to receive this award and afterwards said:

“I am so shocked, I can’t believe it! I will accept this award on behalf of the whole team – the other volunteers, Humber staff – it’s not just about one person, we all work together as a team and I’d like to thank everyone so much for this.”

In addition to our two winners at the ceremony, we also took the time to celebrate several of our teams and individuals for being nominated at the event.

Congratulations to Barbara Failey, who was nominated for the Unsung Health Hero Award, to our YOURhealthteam for being nominated for two other awards – the Mental Health and Wellbeing Award and the Team of the Year – and also to our Research and Development team, for being nominated for Team of the Year.

We are very proud of you all. Well done!
