Celebrating our best ever staff survey results with free ice creams delivered to staff

Ice Cream Van

Last week, we treated our teams to a free ice cream as a thank you for our unrivalled NHS Staff Survey results earlier in the year.

The ice cream van travelled over 100 miles, from Whitby Hospital in North Yorkshire, all the way to our Trust Headquarters in Willerby, visiting many services in between.

Feedback from our teams has been brilliant, with many commenting on the kind gesture and how well timed it was in the high temperatures. Staff enjoyed taking a moment to celebrate with their colleagues and enjoy the sweet treat in the sunshine.

The NHS Staff Survey is a national requirement which gives staff the opportunity to inform leaders of their experience working NHS organisations. The results of the 2023 NHS Staff Survey show that working at our Trust is already matching the aspirations required for all NHS employers to reach by 2025.

Our most recent staff survey had a record-breaking completion rate of 56% and the results were the best we have ever received, representing a 12% increase year on year from 2022.

The survey includes a measure which looks at the number of staff who agree/strongly agree that they ‘would recommend their organisation as a place to work’. In this category alone, we saw a rise from 49% in 2019 to 67% in 2023, making us the most improved in the country for Trusts of our kind, and the second most improved in the NHS overall in the same period.

Throughout the survey, the average benchmarks were met or exceeded in measures including flexibility, morale, and a culture of learning. Results measure progress on seven NHS People Promises plus the themes of staff engagement and morale, to track national progress against the ambition to make the NHS the best workplace it can be.

We are proud to be performing above average for all NHS People Promise themes and subthemes, and we are so pleased to celebrate our staff throughout the year for the brilliant work they do each and every day.
