Bringing communal spaces to life at Avondale
Published: 22 November 2022
Avondale is a 14-bed clinical decisions unit. It provides assessment, care planning and treatment to people in a mental health crisis. In this busy environment, staff can often be supporting a range of patients with complex needs.
Staff and patients at Avondale expressed that they felt the centre lacked warmth and colour, and as a result, they set about looking for ways to improve the centre.
As part of this, teams developed a fundraising event alongside Trust Charity, Health Stars. Fourteen of our #Humbelievable members of staff successfully completed the gruelling Three Peaks as part of this challenge – an amazing team effort and achievement!
Health Stars, our Trust charity who aim to enhance the services provided to the people living in our local area, helped to make the team's wishes become a reality, including supporting a request for a range of therapy and activity resources and to improve the overall look and feel of the unit.
This work has led to improvements across the centre, to both the décor and the resources available to staff and patients. Colourful and vibrant murals, such as those pictured, have been painted on internal and external walls. Also, the new therapy and activity resources the unit has been able to obtain have proven beneficial to the wellbeing of patients and provided more opportunity to engage them during their stay.
Everyone is delighted with the improvements that have been made which have transformed and improved the unit for all.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in this brilliant project!
