National Breastfeeding Week 2023 has started and will run from the 18 to 24 September.  It will continue to build on last year’s theme of “Everyone has a part to play in helping Mums to breastfeed”.

With this in mind, members of the Hull Integrated Infant Feeding Team (which includes the Hull IPHNS Infant Feeding Team, The Goodwin Peer Support Service and Infant Feeding Champions from the Family Hubs) will be working together to promote this and show women in our area that we are all there to support them.

We have an exciting announcement to make now that the new “Breastfeeding Hubs” are ready!  We will be using these for the first time in Hull City Centre.  The Hubs are two large gazebo tents, which have been decorated using pictures hand drawn by local primary school children. They will be used at future large scale events to provide a private and comfortable place for women to breastfeed and can also be used by any services who may need them. The infant feeding team will be out with the tents in St. Stephens, and on King Edward Street near the old BHS building between 12:00 and 15:00pm on Friday the 22nd September, raising awareness about breastfeeding and promoting the support that’s available to women in Hull.

Our regular breastfeeding support groups will be available throughout the week:

  • Mondays 10am-12pm: Manor Farm, Willerby Road, HU5 5JW
  • Tuesdays 11am-2pm: Cups and Scoops, 209 Chanterlands Ave, HU5 3TP
  • Tuesdays 1.30-3pm: Acorn Family Hub, Nester Grove, HU9 4DP
  • Wednesdays 1-2.30pm: Bransholme Playgroup, Bransholme Methodist Church, HU7 4RS
  • Thursdays 10am-12pm: World of Wonder, Hull Community Church, Newland Ave, HU5 2NB
  • Thursdays 1.30-2.30pm: Marfleet Family Hub, HU9 5AN
  • Fridays 9.30-11am: Christ Church Newland Toddlers, 552 Beverley Road, HU6 7LG
  • Fridays 10am-12pm: Lemon Tree Family Hub, JU7 5DD

In addition, Little Stars Family Hub will run a breastfeeding support session on Tuesday 19 September between 13:00 – 14:00, and the session at Lemon Tree Family Hub on Friday 22 September will be looking at breastfeeding related milestones and decorating delicious cupcakes.

We look forward to getting out and meeting parents-to-be, new parents and parents who have some experience with breastfeeding with older children to raise awareness, share stories, and ultimately showing that we are all here to play a part in supporting women to breastfeed.
