Breastfeeding Celebration Week, 21 - 27 June 2021

Published: 01 January 0001

This week is Breastfeeding Celebration Week with the theme being how partners and the wider family unit can support breastfeeding initiation and duration. A key focus will be how to get the whole family involved and bond with baby.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council Children’s Centres and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust Integrated Public Health Nursing Service (ISPHNS) have teamed up with breastfeeding charities and Public Health England to run a campaign on social media.

It comes as the services are celebrating the re-validation of the prestigious UNICEF Baby Friendly, Achieving Sustainability Gold Award (March 2021). They were first in the UK to receive an integrated award, in March 2019.

This year’s theme of how partners and wider family can support breastfeeding is an extremely important one. Breastfeeding is a learnt skill and it can take some time to get it right, support from those around is so important. If breastfeeding is something they’ve decided to do, your support does count.

The ISPHNS and Children’s Centre services provide lots of advice and support in the ante-natal period including parent education sessions. Following the birth of your baby, home visiting, 1-1 support, telephone contacts, Breastfeeding Cafes, and a specialist breastfeeding service delivered by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs).

Children Centres Breastfeeding Cafés are pleased to be back face to face and during Breastfeeding Celebration week a number of activities will be taking place in some of our Children Centres with picnics and pram pushes to celebrate.
