Across our region people celebrated Armed Forces Day on 24 June. As a health and social care service provider, including our Veterans’ Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison Service (TILS) specifically, we support veterans in many ways and wish to show our support for this important awareness day.

Our team consists of Nurses and Social Workers, the majority of whom have served themselves, worked for the MOD, and/or are members of the Armed Forces community. The few team members who do not have this lived experience, have a good understanding and awareness of military culture as this is something that is required to do the job well.

However, we also value this diversity in the team as some of our service users do not want to talk to others in the community and want someone who is a little more disconnected.

Choice is a huge part of our service offering. As we are a self-referral service, it is important that we ensure that we are as accessible as possible to those in transition and to the families of Veterans. It is our aim to ensure everyone has access to the support they require.

When supporting our service users, we see them where and when they want, and work around their schedules as much as we possibly can to ensure service support is maintained over time, in a way that is convenient for them. We also stay involved in their progress even when they are using other services in addition to our own. It is important to us to ensure their needs are met and that we can check back in with service users to see if there is more we can do.

To help raise awareness for veterans’ stories and the support we provide as a Trust, we are pleased to share two inspiring stories with you, as below.
