Alcohol Awareness Week

Published: 11 December 2021

Next week, 15 – 21 November 2021, is Alcohol Awareness Week.

This is a week of awareness-raising, campaigning for change, and more, and this year, the theme is ‘Alcohol and Relationships’.

Alcohol and relationships are closely linked. Many of us associate alcohol and socialising, and alcohol can become a big part of our connections and interactions with those around us. But when our own or a loved one’s drinking starts to negatively affect our relationships, or stands in the way of us taking action on our own drinking, it can have a huge impact on our lives.

On top of this, research shows that many of us may have found ourselves drinking more to deal with feelings of loneliness and isolation during the pandemic. As we leave lockdown and return to normal life there will be new pressures too – pressures to drink, 'sober shaming', and pressures we put on ourselves to get back to ‘normal’ socialising.

So, this Alcohol Awareness Week, we’ll be working with our YOURhealth service to look at the ways in which alcohol can affect our relationships and share stories, factsheets, tips and more on our social media.

Follow us on @HumberNHSFT to see this content throughout the week and share the message on your own channels if you would like to show others that support is out there when they need it.

To find out more about Alcohol Awareness Week and support in relation to this, visit the Alcohol Change UK website. Or, if you’re a resident in Hull and the East Riding, take a look at our YOURhealth service website, to see if there’s support out there that suits your needs, when hoping to make positive lifestyle changes.
