Published: 07 April 2025

We are delighted to share the news that Adam Newton, an Advanced Complex Care Practitioner on our Virtual Ward in Scarborough and Ryedale, has been awarded the prestigious title of Queens Nurse.
The title of a Queen’s Nurse is awarded to registered nurses, health visitors and midwives with at least five consecutive years’ experience working in the community, primary care or social care setting who have demonstrated a high-level commitment to improving patient care and nursing practice through clinical practice and delivering learning and leadership.
Adam said, “Being successful in my application and receiving the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title means the absolute world to me and is the highest accomplishment of my nursing career so far. The award will enable me to network with other Queen Nurses across the county, allowing me to continue in my commitment to improving community nursing care across the Scarborough, Ryedale and Whitby area.”
His career with our Trust started in 2018 as a newly qualified community nurse, followed by a number of posts and achievements. These achievements most notably included the District Nurse Specialist Practitioner qualification (DNSPQ) through University of Hull and more recently completing the V300 Non-Medical Prescribing course which enables him to prescribe medications like a doctor can for the patients under his care.
Adam now works as an Advanced Complex Care Practitioner for the Virtual Ward. He said, “In this role I am learning everyday working alongside a multidisciplinary team consisting of GPs, Paramedics, Nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, and a physiotherapist. As a team we help keep individuals keep out of hospital, working with patients stepping down from the acute trust or with patients stepping up from GP surgeries, and even direct referrals from Yorkshire Ambulance Service. I have attended a course on blood interpretation and have spent time working alongside other members of the team, this has helped improve my knowledge and is ensuring I am the able to provide the best care, leading to increased knowledge and performance, leading to better outcomes and care to the patients I visit.”
Congratulations to Adam on this well-deserved recognition.
