10,000th COVID-19 vaccine given at Humber
Published: 01 January 0001
The Trust COVID-19 vaccine programme is well underway and we are thrilled to announce that, earlier this month, we delivered our 10,000th vaccine.
We asked both the vaccinator, Kerry, and the member of staff receiving the vaccine, Matthew, a few questions about the experience to commemorate this outstanding achievement.
Matthew, receiving the 10,000th vaccine, said:
How did you feel when you found out you were getting Humber’s 10,000th vaccine?
I was keen to receive the injection and when the opportunity came to receive it, I jumped at the chance. As for receiving the 10,000th one at the Trust, I feel like this just made it all that more special. I feel privileged to be part of something so big, especially at a landmark stop.
Why do you think that it’s important people get their jab?
We often hear that one person can't make a difference. But with the COVID-19 vaccine, it is our chance to do something not just for ourselves, but for the people around us.
What would you say to those considering booking their vaccine?
It’s ok to be unsure. The staff at the vaccine centre are approachable and comforting, and they will answer any questions you have. If you feel nervous, they are there to help.
How did you find the overall experience of getting vaccinated at Humber?
The centre is very well organised and clean. There’s easy to follow directions and again, staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I didn’t find it painful or anything like that, just a sore arm afterwards which is common and to be expected.
Kerry, providing the 10,000th vaccine, said:
How have you found the experience of being a vaccinator at this time?
I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the vaccinating team. I have been able to work with a variety of clinicians that I wouldn’t normally meet. There is a great sense of pride and comradery within the team that makes the whole experience, even though brought about by extraordinary times, a pleasure to be involved with.
Why do you think it’s important to be a part of this effort?
This pandemic has caused worldwide devastation and affected people’s lives in a variety of ways. Each one of us has a reason for beating this pandemic and if I can play a small part in protecting people to regain some normality, then I am certainly putting my clinical skills to use to assist.
How did you feel about giving the 10,000th vaccine?
Throughout the vaccination period the team have talked about the number of people that have had a vaccination and have been proud that the UK number of vaccinations given has been added to by us! To reach the milestone of 10,000 is great! Each person having a vaccine is 1 more protected, potentially more lives saved and one step closer.
If you could give advice to those thinking about getting their vaccine, what would it be?
If you are unsure of whether to have a vaccine I would tell you to come along and speak to us. I understand that people may have questions and I can only encourage you to seek answers from the reliable sources. We are here to help you feel comfortable and to come to a decision.
