Humber Youth Action Group

Working with young people to have their say in improving our services and get involved in Trust activities.

The Humber Youth Action Group (HYAG) has been developed to bring those aged 11-25 in Hull and the East Riding together with the goal of helping our organisation improve its services for children and young people.

Our virtual sessions take place every three weeks and are laid-back, fun and friendly. Those who join the group can meet other like-minded young people and come together to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences to help improve healthcare services for others.

My experience of joining the group

Maisy-240x243.png

Hi, I’m Maisy, a 22-year-old Psychology student at University. I enjoy reading, spending time with family, musical theatre, and going to the gym. My favourite snack is sweet and salted popcorn.

Why did I get involved?

I was motivated to join the group after reading about it online. As a Psychology student I have a passion for mental health and wellbeing, so I am very interested in getting involved in improving the services and the experiences of young people seeking both physical and mental health support.

What have I enjoyed the most so far?

I have really enjoyed getting to speak to healthcare professionals from all different roles and getting an insight into what they do. One of my most memorable moments in the group is getting to sit on the interview panel for new Health Care Assistants for a Children’s Mental Health Impatient Unit. This was a very unique opportunity that I am very grateful for.

Has it developed my skills and knowledge?

Yes, it has! I have learnt a lot more about the inner workings of the healthcare system, and the different roles people do to keep it going. I have developed my skills in speaking with professionals and having the confidence in myself to volunteer for opportunities I would have been too scared to partake in previously.

Has being a member helped with my studies and career experience?

I believe it has, yes, as I am certain I want to work for the NHS, and I think that the group has given me a foot in the door that I would not have had previously.

Would I encourage others to join?

Yes.The Humber Youth Action Group is an incredibly supportive environment with exclusive opportunities, and it is an amazing chance to further your skills whilst meeting new people!
