Disability Confident (Guaranteed Interview) Scheme
We are a Disability Confident employer and operate a guaranteed interview scheme if an applicant has a disability covered by the definition outlined within the Equality Act 2010 and can show that they meet the ‘essential criteria’ described in the person specification for the role being applied for, they are guaranteed a priority interview for the job for which they are applying, through our Disability Confident scheme.
Under the Equality Act 2010, a disabled person is someone who has – or has had in the past – a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on that person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
As an equal opportunities and disability confident employer, we actively encourage applications from people who consider themselves to have a disability falling within that broad definition.
Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Armed Forces Veterans
As an organisation we are signed up to the NHS Employers Step into Health programme, this connects skilled candidates from across the Armed Forces community with employers and new opportunities in the NHS. As part of our work with Step into Health we offer a guaranteed interview scheme for veterans. Many people leaving the armed forces find it difficult to transition to civilian life, especially finding secure and lasting employment. The guaranteed interview scheme for veterans means they will get a chance to demonstrate their strengths beyond the initial application stage.
The guaranteed interview scheme aims to:
- Help veterans overcome barriers to finding civilian employment
- Reduce the risk of health and welfare problems as a result of long-term unemployment
- Redress the balance for veterans’ re-employment prospects by giving them the chance to improve their transition back into civilian life
- Complement the re-employment support provided to veterans by the Ministry of Defence
- Help the council benefit from the transferrable skills and qualities of veterans
Both schemes will not be guarantee jobs. That will still go to the best candidate based on objective criteria in the job specification. The guaranteed interview schemes for any veteran or disabled candidates whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post.
Trac will highlight candidates who have declared a disability or armed forces veteran when the lead shortlister finalises the shortlisting to make sure those that meet the ‘essential criteria’ described in the person specification are invited to interview.
The recruiting/line manager is responsible for ensuring all reasonable adjustments are made to ensure they can attend for interview. Further advice can be sought from the recruitment team.
