Caroline Flint's Profile

Caroline took up post in September 2021, for an initial term of office of three years.  She is now serving her second term. Alongside chairing Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, Caroline chairs the Government’s Advisory Committee on Fuel Poverty. She was a member of the UK Commission on Covid Commemoration looking at how we should remember our collective experiences of the pandemic. 

She has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of General Practitioners for her work on public health, especially the legislation and delivery of “Smoke-Free England” to end smoking in enclosed public spaces.

She is a broadcaster and commentator appearing on shows like “Good Morning Britain” and’ and SKY’s “Politics Hub”. She won Celebrity Mastermind in 2021 with the film “Alien” as her specialist subject, donating her win to the National Association for Children of Alcoholics.

Caroline was elected as the first woman MP for the Don Valley constituency in Doncaster, 1997- 2019. She served as Minister in five departments during the Blair/Brown Governments, namely: Home Office, Health, Work and Pensions, Communities and Local Government and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. As Housing, and then Europe Minister, she attended Cabinet.

In opposition she was Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government followed by Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. 

From 2015-19 she served on the Public Accounts Committee and on the Intelligence and Security Committee 2017-2019.


Caroline chairs the Trust Board and Council of Governors meetings and the Remuneration Board sub-committee.

Caroline also attends the Board Sub-Committees at least once a year to observe. As Chair she represents Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust through regional and national networks and forums.
