Whitby Community Hospital provides inpatient, outpatient and community services to the town of Whitby and surrounding area. The Hospital is located in the centre of town, opposite the Police Station. It is a short, although uphill, walk from the town centre, rail and bus stations.

Whitby In Patient Ward
In Patient services for patients who require rehabilitation for medical/surgical/complex long term conditions, palliative and end of life care. Other in patient care that can safely be provided within a community hospital setting and does not require consultant level medical care. Taking Step down patients from other acute hospital settings and Step up patients from within the local community via GP to ward medical officer referral.
Day case patients who require intravenous treatments that can safely by administered in a community hospital setting on a day basis eg. Blood transfusions and intravenous infusions.
Services provided 24/7 basis for in patients. Day cases Monday – Friday.

2.00pm until 4.45pm and 5.45pm until 8.00pm. There are open visiting hours for Palliative care patients.
MSK Physiotherapy Out-Patients, Whitby Hospital
The MSK Physiotherapy service offers the assessment and treatment of adults with musculo-skeletal (MSK) pain or problems. These problems can include: soft tissue injuries, joint pain, or rehabilitation after trauma or surgery.
The service is based at Whitby hospital and provides clinics at Egton, Staithes and Danby GP practices for those people living more rurally. The team consists of experienced specialist Physiotherapists in the management of MSK problems.
At the first appointment the patient will be assessed and an appropriate treatment plan will be discussed.
Who does the MSK service treat?
Adults aged 18 and over with musculo-skeletal problems. These problems can include: soft tissue injuries, joint pain, or rehabilitation after trauma or surgery.
Patients with neurological/respiratory/mobility and current falls should be referred by their GP the Neighbourhood Care therapy team.
Patients under 18 should be referred by their GP to the Paediatric Physiotherapy service provided by York Foundation Trust based at Scarborough hospital.
Further Information
The service offers a self-referral option. Patients phoning their GP practice for a GP appointment may be directed to self-refer for Physiotherapy as this might be a more appropriate service to meet their needs. Patients will be asked to phone Whitby hospital on 01947 899200, Monday – Friday 8.30 am – 12 pm to register. They will then be offered an appointment for a triage assessment with a Physiotherapist. The service offers appointments Monday – Friday 8am until 4pm.
